I have read a lot of Russian literature old and new. The impression I have from Gogol, Tolstoy, Solzhenitsyn, Bulgakov, Dovlatov etc. is that Russia is a land with many men of incredible talent but they are always led by the corrupt and incompetent. You get the same impression from Russian and Soviet films and my wife speaks ofttimes of Russian corruption. I had thought Mr. Putin was one of those men of incredible talent who was finally in charge. His Sisyphean task was to imbue Russia with a new ethic not based on corruption. Well either he failed or it was never his intent. I would understand if Dima were still in office, but Putin? If he is not in on this global grab for power then he is certainly showing he is not really in control of his country--scary thought.
Yet this is still what I do not understand. If Russia is part of this farce, then why all the western antagonism towards Russia? Is it all Kabuki theater? There is a disconnect somewhere in this very real conspiracy to enslave us.

Putin was someone I thought was standing up for truth in the past, until the USSA invaded and destroyed Libya. Russia didn't try to stop it or make the USSA look bad for it in the UN.
And now Russia has been in Syria, fighting an endless war against USSA/Israel (who are illegally there) because they are Syria's ally, while being called the bad guys by the west. I worked for a very large corporation--The US Department of Defense so I know what you are saying. The thing that gets me is that for all of the so-called Cold War there was no internet and we had greater trust in our media; so I am pretty forgiving regarding our attitudes towards government back then. Now we have internet and know for a fact what is going, people still go along with the show and actually believe it.
It has been interesting to watch how covid directives sent from an invisible global government to the once sovereign countries of the world are implemented in a different way depending on the local circumstances. There is always a twist in everything Russia is doing which can be its damnation or salvation. The latest world government-fed narrative about “taking pressure off the hospital system” and “protecting hospital beds” is surely the last argument they have got left in this “pandemic”. Government officials and their pet scientists all over the world can no longer lie about the fact that vaccinated people easily get and transmit the virus. With Omicron, it is said that absolutely everyone will get it in the next three months, regardless of the vaccination status. So, the only remaining utility of the vaccines is a less severe decease and lower hospitalisation rates, hence the latest mantra about hospital beds. But here is a little problem. Omicron is apparently so harmless that hospitalisation rates are stubbornly low, let alone ICU admissions or deaths. For example here in Australia, in the state of New South Wales with the population of 8 mln and daily Omicron case rates over 6k for the last week, there are only 450 people in hospitals and 52 in intensive care at the moment (80% of whom are still with Delta). NSW health minister Brad Hazzard declared just before Christmas that if ICU admissions of the unvaccinated claim too high with Omicron, he will impose a lockdown again. So far the old liar Mr Hazzard was unable to lie in the face of the facts and we, residents of NSW, are still enjoying our freedom. It will be interesting to see how Mr Sobyanin, Golikova, Popova and the Co. will play this card - manipulate the statistics and deny the facts?
