As recently as October 2023, Health Minister Murashko announced a meeting with WHO head Ghebreyesus and spoke about “an agreement to hold joint events in Russia,” as well as close cooperation in terms of infection prevention. Economy
Russia has banned banana imports from Ecuador after regulators claimed they found evidence of the fruit being contaminated by humpback flies. The decision comes after Ecuadorian authorities decided to transfer Soviet equipment and weapons to the United States, which will reportedly be used to supply Ukraine’s military. [mk.ru]

The prices for tomatoes and cucumbers have increased multiple times. According to Rosstat, in 2023 these vegetables became the leaders among the most expensive products. In some cases, they have become more expensive than chicken and pork. [ura.ru]
Russia and Turkey plan to create a joint bank to resolve problems with payments and transfers that Turkish institutions had with Russian partners due to pressure from the United States and the European Union. [mk.ru]
A Russian living in Slovenia since 2020 went viral in Russia media after she returned to Russia and commented on food prices: “I’m just shocked! Why is everything so expensive? What do you eat with such food prices? Some of your products cost the same as ours in Europe!” However, she concluded that this meant that sanctions are failing and the Russian economy is prospering. The Bank of Russia said it was premature to talk about a stable trend toward slowing inflation in the Russian Federation, although some indicators already indicate a slight decrease in price pressure. [ria.ru]

The IMF has predicted a GDP growth in Russia of 2.6%, doubling its previous estimate. The new forecast has prompted some outlets in the West, including the Financial Times, to question the effectiveness of Western sanctions against Moscow. [svpressa.ru]
According to preliminary estimates, the volume of federal budget revenues in January 2024 amounted to 2 trillion 396 billion rubles, which is 76.6% higher than the volume of revenue receipts in January 2023. “Public Health”
It would be “illogical and inappropriate” for Moscow to withdraw from the World Health Organization, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said during an interview on February 5. He explained that Moscow seeks “cooperation with those countries that accordingly support our direction” on issues of global health, and supports “exchange of data and information”. According to Murashko, the “pandemic” demonstrated the need for “cooperation” with the WHO. [ria.ru]

Coronavirus currently does not pose a significant risk to people’s lives and basic health, said Anna Popova, the head of Rospotrebnadzor. She added that compulsory mask rules were unnecessary, since the disease is not severe and only a small number of people become infected. [ria.ru]

Specialists from the Moscow Department of Rospotrebnadzor carried out “anti-epidemic measures” in response to a reported case of measles at the Kosygin Russian State University. Rospotrebnadzor employees identified a circle of people who came in contact with the infected student, and the university management was given an order to limit visits to the campus by students and teachers who did not have information about vaccination against measles or a previous illness. Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation has completed a pre-trial investigation into former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko’s alleged illegal coal deal with the breakaway republics in Donbass. The indictment against the oligarch will be sent to court. On December 20, 2021, Poroshenko was charged with treason for purchasing coal in the DPR and LPR in 2014-2015. Society
Russia’s Central Election Commission has approved four candidates for next month’s presidential election: Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Nikolai Kharitonov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation), Vladislav Davankov (New People) and incumbent Vladimir Putin. [regnum.ru]
Russia will firmly suppress any Western attempts to interfere in the presidential elections, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a meeting of the Federation Council commission on protecting state sovereignty and preventing interference in the internal affairs of Russia. Rosfinmonitoring added Sergei Udaltsov, the coordinator of the “Left Front”, to the list of persons and organizations associated with extremist activities or terrorism. In mid-January, Udaltsov was arrested and sent to a pre-trial detention center until February 1. The investigation charged the activist with justifying terrorism. The left-wing activist said that he is accused of supporting members of a Marxist circle from Ufa, who were detained in 2022 on charges of creating a terrorist society, but have yet to be convicted of a crime. Rusnano subsidiary Plastic Logic LLC, the developer of the “Chubais tablet” (Anatoly Chubais headed Rusnano in 2010–2020), is filing for bankruptcy. The Russian government has approved the Concept for the preservation and development of the intangible ethnocultural heritage of Russia until 2030. Another 17 Russian banks are preparing to join the digital ruble pilot project, according to a press release from the Bank of Russia. Among the credit institutions planning to join the project are Rosselkhozbank, Tinkoff Bank, and Sberbank. The Central Bank and a group of banks began testing the digital ruble in August 2023. The police refused to investigate Ramzan Kadyrov’s son after he beat a teenager who was in custody for desecrating a copy of the Koran. Oligarch Mikhail Friedman won a lawsuit against a housekeeper who worked in his London mansion Athlone House. The housekeeper was on maternity leave when Friedman fell under sanctions. Soon after she was fired and deprived of benefits. She filed a lawsuit accusing the businessman of unfair dismissal and discrimination, but the court called her a “victim of the process”. Former partner of Alisher Usmanov, founder of Trustconsult and Coalco International companies Vasily Anisimov (Forbes estimates his fortune at $1.6 billion) became the seventh billionaire who renounced Russian citizenship after the start of a special operation in Ukraine. [rbc.ru]
The State Duma will soon introduce a bill that would make it possible to recognize as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation the activities of foreign and international organizations, the founders or participants of which are government agencies of foreign states. “It’s high time to do this, we are furiously behind reality in this area—to the point that we cannot recognize terrorist organizations as such if they are government bodies (GUR, SBU, etc.),” Duma Deputy Mikhail Delyagin (A Just Russia – For Truth) told Kommersant. what a great news for Russians just before presidential election. Fyi - for decades retirement age in Russia for men was 60y. In 2018, the Russian Government approved a bill to gradually increase the retirement age for men to 65, starting from the beginning of 2019 until 2028. Currently it is 63y.
All in all, you might be considered too old to hold an office job, but you are not considered too old to crawl through trenches in sub zero conditions, carry say 20kg of mil. equipment all day and fight to death.
But think of the money that will be saved on pensions!

Cooperation is a good thing. It can lead to scientific advances. However, being threatened with a so-called "GERM" response team by Bill Gates does not count as cooperation (unless they've redefined that term, too).
