Reminds me of a little my experiences in St. Petersburg, 2007. Wanted to keep reading your story and I wish I knew you personally. Looking forward to reading the next substack.

I finished my composing of my business card! Yeah!!! Hooray! Ура! I am so happy since I first thought of this project back in March. I am posting this business card composition for the first time here on Riley's substack. My 'professional' translator just finished translating into Russian. All I need to do now is to find a business card format. If anyone knows a free business card format software, then please let me know since I never made a business card before. I believe all lines will fit on front and back of business card. Please feel free to copy the idea, change to fit your country, and hand out business cards in your local area in your country ONLY IF you feel comfortable and like the idea. >>>>>>>>>>

Doesn't sound like a lot of fun for you, but your descriptions of the places and people really brightened up my morning! Spasibo!

Somehow I was under impression that by marrying a Russian girl (I assumed you did from your other stories) you solved your Russian visa problem forever. Obviously I was wrong! Those pesky and heartless Russian FMS bureaucrats continue pestering Russia loving Americans. What a bunch of crooks!

I'd like to join others in congratulating you on excellent writing! People say "a novel is in the making" - I'd say, nah, novels could be very boring. I think a short story is a genre where you really shine. You pack so much punch and allegories into a 10 minute read!

Thanks for a thorough entertainment, Riley! Hope you'll solve your visa problems soon and will come back to Moscow before the weather there turns ugly.

I noticed on my second reading that this missive featured a dishonest meme. Those two in neon are imposters - or Con artists... They're not in Tiblisi at ALL!!! They're in Venice Beach California - where I will be your van driver. In one panel we can clearly see the edges of the Venice Beach Skate Park, in the background... In another we can see the awning of the Sidewalk Cafe, and Small World Books. I suspect that Golf carts are universal.

They may actually be Russian IT/SWIFT system refugees... But they are definitely far from Tiblisi.

Gamarjoba!

Are you from Venice Beach? I was born in Santa Monica :)

Yes and yes. I'm from DogTown... like Jay Adams (RIP), and his 4 gram 1/8s of deliciously Skunk(y) high grade California weed, in times of yore.

I've always liked you... And now here's another reason.

I have a question. Were you unceremoniously booted from Russia, because no longer working for RT, your work visa expired...requiring your enduring sojourn/exile in the homeland of Stalin and Sheverdnadze and Shalikashvili?
