And what IF they are only withdrawing their troops so they can NUKE the abandoned areas?

Nuking Chornobyl would be a redundancy, besides this: "On February 24, the Russian military took over Chernobyl, they were strafing weapons and digging trenches in the radioactive soil. Yesterday they began retreating toward Gomel and carrying the radiation with them. There are 73 people in grave condition, more than 20 are hospitalized, there is information about the first death from radiation. Don't let your home be turned into a nuclear burial ground!!! Did people die in 1986 so that their children and grandchildren could suffer radiation again? Don't let the stupidity and irresponsibility of the Russian military put you in danger." https://www.instagram.com/p/CbzuApyoJke/c/18230360095103710/

Yes it is flatly impossible to get acute radiation sickness from the largely decayed isotopes in the soil around Chernobyl. The worst they could do is increase their risk of cancer much later in life. Kind of like smoking too many cigarettes.
